Charles Sanders Peirce 1839-1914 yılları arasında yaşamış Amerikalı pragmatist filozof Öncelikle pragmatizm akımının isim babası olmuş, daha sonra da onun yönteminin ana hatlarını çizmiştir O, felsefede işe bilgi konusundan başlamış ve burada, Aristoteles'in düzeni doğada bulan nesnel yaklaşımı ile Kant'ın bilgideki düzenin zihnin eseri olduğunu dile getiren öznel yaklaşımının bir sentezini yapmıştır Kavram, fikir ve kuramlarımızın doğruluklarını, onların yararlılıklarıyla özdeşleştiren Peirce'a göre, yöntem öncelikle düşüncelerimizi açık ve seçik hale getirmekten oluşur, öyle ki bu yöntemle felsefe bir bilime dönüşecektir
