REPORTED SPEECH
Indirect Speech (?reported speech? de denir) birisinin söylediği cümleyi aktarmaya denirGenellikle konuşma dilinde kullanılır Eğer aktarılan eylem geçmişte yapılmış ise, cümle geçmiş zaman olurBu kalıp genellikle bahsedilen zamandan bir önceki geçmiş zamanla ifade edilir
Örneğin:He said the test was difficult (Testin zor olduğunu söyledi) She said she watched TV every day (Her gün TV seyrettiğini söyledi) Jack said he came to school every day (Jack her gün okula gittiğini söyledi)

Eğer aktarılan eylem; geniş zaman, geçmiş zaman veya gelecek zaman ile ifade ediliyorsa, kullanılan zaman aynı kalır, değişmez
Örneğin: He says the test is difficult (Testin zor olduğunu söylüyor) She has said that she watches TV every day (Her gün TV izlediğini söylemişti) Jack will say thathe comes to school every day (Jack okula her gün geldiğini söylüyor)

Eğer aktarılan konu, genel geçer bir olayı anlatıyorsa geniş zaman kullanılır
Örneğin:

The teacher said that phrasal verbs are very important

Zamir ve Zaman Zarflarının Değiştirilmesi Konuşma aktarılırken, zamirin cümlede geçen nesne ile uyumlu hale gelebilmesi için zamiri de değiştirmek gerekir
Örneğin: She said, "I want to bring my children" (Çocuklarımı getirmek istiyorum?, dedi She said she wanted to bring her children ? Çocuklarını getirmek istediğini söyledi), olur
Jack said, "My wife went with me to the show" (Şova karımla birlikte gittik), dedi

Jack said his wife had gone with him to the show (Jack, şova karısıyla birlikte gittiğini söyledi) Konuşulan anı; geniş zaman, geçmiş zaman veya gelecek zamanla uyumlu hale getirmek için zaman zarflarını da değiştirmek gerekir
Örneğin: She said, "I want to bring my children tomorrow" (Çocuklarımı yarın getirmek istiyorum), dedi

( Çocuklarını yarın getirmek istediğini söyledi), olur
Jack said, "My wife went with me to the show yesterday" (Dün şova karımla birlikte gittik), dedi

(Jack, dün şova karısıyla birlikte gittiğini söyledi)

Indirect Questions Soruları aktarırken özellikle cümlelerin dizilişine dikkat etmek gerekirEvet/Hayır ile başlayan soru cümlelerini aktarırken (if) ?eğer? kullanılırNiçin, nerede, ne zaman gibi soru kelimelerini kullanırken, cümleye bu soru kelimeleriyle başlamak gerekir
Örneğin: She asked, "Do you want to come with me?" ?Benimle gelmek ister misin??, diye sorduShe asked me if I wanted to come with her ?Bana, onunla gidip gitmeyeceğimi sordu? olur
Dave asked, "Where did you go last weekend?" Dave, ?Geçen hafta nereye gittin??, diye sordu

Simple Past Tense

1 Lily: "My sister goes out every evening"

*Geçmiş zamanda da "say" fiilinin zamanına göre aktarılan cümlenin zamanı değişmektedir Verilen örneklerde aktarılan cümlelerdeki "say" geçmiş zamanla verilmiştir(said) O yüzden cümle aktarılırken bir zaman geçmişi alınmıştır1 söylenen cümle geniş zaman ise, fakat aktarılırken "said" denmişse geniş zaman bir geçmiş olan geçmiş zamana yani past tense e dönüştürülmektedir

Alice: "Bill said that he had studied the night before"

2 Tuna: "We didn"t go on holiday last year"
Mine: "Tuna said that they hadn"t gone on holiday the year before"

3 Sinan: "I have finished my homework"
Derya: "He said that he had finished his homework"

Sally: Jim said that he had finished his homework before he had gone out

Present Continuous Tense

1 "I am studying English"
- She said that she was studying English

2 "They are reading books"
- They said that they were reading books

Past Continuous Tense

1 "I was watching television at 7 oclock last night"
- she said that she was watching tv at 7 oclock the night before
- She said that she had been watching tv at 7 oclock the night before

2 "We were eating lunch when they came in"
- They said that they were eating lunch when they came in
- They said that they had been eating lunch when they had come
