* 32 PANEL DISCUSSION ON "WOMENS ACCESS TO PUBLIC SERVICES"
(17 - 19 December 2005, Gaziantep
The last stage in the programme for "Training Female Leaders" implemented jointly by the GAP Administration, Kent State University and Bahcesehir University was the "Evaluation Meeting and Panel Discussion" This final activity took place in Gaziantep from 17 to 19 December 2005 with the participation of representatives of governmental organisations in 9 regional provinces, civil society organisations and CATOMs who had received training both in the country and abroad at various dates The first day of the event was devoted to evaluation On 18 December 2005, a panel discussion was held on "FEMALE ACCESS TO PUBLIC SERVICES"
Topics addressed under this general heading included social support mechanisms, participation to political life and womens rights The panel discussion chaired by Ilhan BICER, General Coordinator for Human Resources and Quality Systems in the Presidency of GAP Administration Panellists were Gokhan Veli KISIOGLU, Deputy Governor of Gaziantep; Dr Nilgun BALIK from Gaziantep Greater Municipality; Meric GUZEL from the Bar Association of Gaziantep and Ozlem MUFTUOGLU from Gaziantep City Council
Deputy Governor Gokhan Veli KISIOGLU gave information about procedures women must follow in reaching social support programmes and mechanisms (ie applications for green card, scholarships, assistance in kind and in cash, issuance of identity and matrimonial documents, etc)
Dr Nilgun BALIK, Department Head in Gaziantep Greater Municipality discussed the place of women in political life and the status of women vis-à-vis health services (access to essential health services, maternal and child health, etc)
Lawyer Meric GUZEL from Gaziantep Bar Association gave information about paths that women can take in relation to rights introduced by the new civil code, violence and inheritance and authorities they can apply to in any situation violating their rights
Ozlem MUFTUOGLU from Gaziantep city Council shared with audience her experience in her election to the City Council, circles supporting her and what women who want to take part in politics should do
The panel discussion concluded that significant progress has been achieved in womens rights with recent reforms; that women can take greater roles in social life as their educational status is improved; womens participation in social life is a key to family welfare and better rearing of children as the future of the country and that women would face fewer challenges and difficulties in their lives
On 19 December 2005, the last day of the meeting, Assoc Prof Suheyla KIRCA from Bahcesehir University gave a conference on "Communication" and 3 participants to the training programme made a presentation on the "Development of Income Generating Projects Targeting Women" The programme ended with the awarding of certificates
