1. The Name Of The Project :
* 1 THE NAME OF THE PROJECT :
FEASIBILITY STUDY AND PILOT PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION FOR GAP GEOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION SYSTEM
The Background of The Project : Work for devising a Geographical Information System was started in 1995 in order to support daily procedures within the Administration and to introduce an effective control mechanism A project prepared for this purpose was presented to the US Trade and Development Agency (US-TDA) The US-TDA found the project worthwhile and consequently a joint venture composed of Psomas and Associates (US) and a group of Turkish firms was awarded a contract to carry out relevant works
The Objective of The Project : To asses the viability of GIS practices for each and every area of activity where the planning, implementation, management, monitoring and evaluation functions of GAP are performed; and to carry out a pilot project in one selected geographical area
The Scope of The Project : The program started with a feasibility study and a pilot project for GAP The project was divided into two but strongly interrelated phases One is Needs Assessment and the other is the pilot project itself
The Outputs of The Project : The pilot project which is expected to establish the general framework for the GAP Geographical Information System has already been completed The pilot project includes information on the GAP Region at scale 1/250,000, on the Province of Sanlıurfa at scale 1/25,000 (see, Figure 1), and on Karakopru settlement at scale 1/1,000 (see, Figure 2)
The Duration of The Project : The project was started on 3 April 1995 and completed in 11 months The final report was submitted on 3 March 1996
