230 cm boyu ve 220 kg ağırlığıyla erkek bir gri fok, bayağı fokdan belirgin olarak daha büyüktür. Ancak dişi bir gri foktan da (180 cm, 150 kg) epeyce büyüktür. Bundan başka erkekler dişilerden daha büyük bir buruna sahiptirler.
