One day, Jesse James bought a drink for a detective in a bar in Nashville. Jesse James introduced himself as Mr Howard'. The detective said: I'm looking for Jesse James, but I don't know what he looks like. I want to see him before I die.'
Later, Jesse James sent a letter to the detective. It said: You can die; you have seen him.'

Billy the Kid died in 1881 at the age of twenty - one. In the two years before his death, he killed twenty - one people. There is one authentic picture of him. He is holding a rifle in his left hand. His insolent, open mouth and half - closed eyes certainly don't look friendly.
The women of the West are usually beautiful in films. But they weren't beautiful in real life - and they weren't very feminine either. In fact most of them were very ugly.

They had wonderful names: Calamity Jane, Big Nose Kate, Madame Moustache, Belle Starr...
Calamity Jane's real name was Martha Jane Canary. She was an alcoholic. She chewed tobacco and killed her lovers. She was also the biggest liar in the West.
Belle Starr was already a member of the Jesse James gang at the age of eighteen. Four of her husbands and lovers were murdered. In a photograph she looks like a man in woman's clothers. She was forty - one when she died. That was in 1889. Somebody shot her in the back.
Big Nose Kate was Doc' Holliday's girlfriend. Holliday was an alcoholic with a dangerous temper. He had tuberculosis and looked like a walking skeleton. He probably had bad eyes too -Kate was very, very ugly.
